This two-room Clinton Hill bar is an unexpectedly romantic enclave on a barren block of Myrtle Avenue. The space is outfitted with boudoir couches, a large Gothic chandelier, a stand-up piano, and an electric fireplace, all thrifty finds from antique excursions in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. There’s also an L-shaped bar which holds wooden bowls of ball-game peanuts and boasts an absinthe fountain for their rotating selection of the potent liquid. A dartboard in the back area entertains the hyperactive, while the more idle can linger over a fashion magazine from the rack in front or borrow a book at the bar. Seasonal cocktails are also on hand: You’ll find the likes of Maker’s Mark and fresh peach juice in the early fall and peach-tea rum punch in the spring, while a stiff mulled cider may be on hand to warm up thawing patrons in the winter. Relaxed backpacker rap provides the soundtrack. — Randi Eichenbaum
