About

Quality and experience are two attributes that builder David Gross possesses; characteristics that are desired and often required by most homeowners. As a leader in the industry since 1994, Gross has built his brand of quality homes first in Philadelphia, Penn., Crested Butte, Colo., and now in Dallas. Today he works solely in the latter two, traveling back and forth between Crested Butte and Big D.

With a background in historic home renovation, Gross can work with any and every kind of build — from a small bathroom project to an entire multi-million dollar home.

“We try to present a transparent approach in the world of high-end custom residential construction, where we work with the architect, designer and client,” Gross said.

Local architects Gross admires and prefers include Wernerfield Architects + Design, Bernbaum-Magadini Architects, and Stocker Hoesterey Montenegro.

“We only give input where necessary, as long as it’s not jeopardizing the architect’s design. But if we see something from a construction standpoint to be cost effective we’ll suggest that,” Gross adds.

What makes the David Gross Fine Homes unique is that Gross and his partners, William Laird and Kevin Morgan, work on just a few projects at a time to give the client ample personal attention.

“We get involved from the beginning, even before the plans are done,” Gross says, “We give some input on the design and structure, but mainly deal with the cost.”

Laird is based in Crested Butte and Morgan resides in Dallas — with Gross splitting his time between the two, clients in both cities are promised full attention.

What does Gross have to say about the best place to save money when it comes to building a home? It might not be obvious to everyone, but figuring out the costs and prices of materials before breaking ground in the pre-construction phase is essential in the planning stages.

“It’s important to give yourself time to plan,” he adds. “Renovation is one thing, but building a house is another — drawing plans itself might need at least a year.”

David Gross Fine Homes works mainly in the Park Cities and Preston Hollow. Visit their website for more information.
